Chairman: Professor, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine V.M. Semenenko
Main areas of research in the in the field of stratigraphy and paleontology: elaboration of detailed stratigraphic patterns for different systems and regions of Ukraine for the purpose of development of stratigraphic basis for geological mapping and other geological tasks; refining of regional stratigraphic scales for the Precambrian and Phanerozoic in Ukraine; general and methodological problems of stratigraphy, stratigraphic classification, terminology and nomenclature; examination and monographic description of different groups of fossil fauna, i.e. foraminifers, radiolarians, sponges, corals, gastropods, bivalves and cephalopoda, trilobites, conodonts, ostracods, bryozoans, brachiopods, graptolites, chitinozoans of the Phanerozoic; study and monographic description of fossil plants, i.e. macroremains, spores and pollen, cuticles and algae of the Upper Proterozoic and Phanerozoic; biogeochemical examination of fossil organisms; regularities in evolution of the animal and plant world in the Late Proterozoic and Phanerozoic; biostratigraphic substantiation of the isolated stratons and the stratigraphic boundaries between the systems, divisions and stages.
Main areas of research in the in the field of history of geological evolution and paleogeography: paleogeographical, litho-facial maps; distribution of different over the past geological periods; paleobiogeography and paleoecology for various groups of fossil fauna and flora; paleo-landscapes which existed over the past geological periods.
